Longtime Cleveland activist Mike Rogalski launches campaign for Cleveland City Council Ward 7

CLEVELAND – Cleveland activist Mike Rogalski has announced his candidacy for Cleveland City Council in the city’s dynamic new Ward 7, which includes The Flats, Tremont, Ohio City and Detroit-Shoreway neighborhoods.

“The days of our community being sold out to the highest bidders are over. The return of real community control and civic engagement will be the new norm,” Rogalski said.

Beating all the odds associated with a challenging childhood, Rogalski, 35, earned a bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Cleveland State University. He is a candidate with varied career experiences ranging from government to higher education and health care.

Rogalski began his career of service with the Cleveland Housing Court, working under the late Judge Raymond Pianka. His next role started in 2014 with Cuyahoga County in various County Health & Human Services agencies. He worked with children and families at the Child Support Enforcement Agency and with the geriatric and disabled populations at the Division of Senior and Adult Services Agency. Currently, he operates as an independent provider offering direct health care support services.

Rogalski is a politically astute man of the people. His political involvement started with the Bedford/Walton Hills Democratic Party and the Bedford Heights Democratic Club. He has been active in local politics since he was a teenager, and considers himself to be a natural leader with a passion for public service. He’s confident his life experience and career provide him with the compassion and conviction necessary to serve Cleveland’s Ward 7 residents.

A significant proportion of residents in Ward 7 represent vulnerable segments of the population: LGBTQIA+, women, seniors, low income, public housing recipients, unhoused, refugees and other marginalized groups. As a leader, Rogalski is willing to shield, defend, and advance the rights, safety, and economic mobility of his vulnerable neighbors amid the increasingly harsh and dangerous political and social climate.

Rogalski aims to return the role of councilperson back to the streets by committing to the indisputable fact that residents know what is best for their neighborhoods. He is unafraid to challenge the status quo and resist caving to outside special interests or personal prerogatives.

“For too long, the voices of Cleveland’s residents have been suppressed and ignored. This new era will invest in residents rather than continue handouts for developers and corporations. Gentrification has decimated the fabric of Ward 7 harder than any ward across the city,” Rogalski said. “Residents want an end to tax abatements for luxury properties, to implement permanent, affordable housing, and to invest in youth and senior programs. They’ve called for investment in coalitions that reflect their diverse interests and backgrounds, represented by leaders who look like them. Ward 7 residents have always been vocal about their needs. Now, they’ll have a partner to spread their message and achieve their goals.”

Rogalski has been a Cleveland resident since 2008. He grew up in Bedford and Cleveland Heights, and graduated from Cleveland Heights High School.
